"Mountains viewed from a distance seem unscalable; but they can be climbed,
and the way to begin is to take the first upward step."
As the leaves change colour and fall, so too is the world of business changing. The news and social media has been a hive of activity recently, talking about the possibility that we are entering recession two.
I believe every day we get a choice to link into fear or possibility. I spoke in Dublin at the New Arriva Stadium and Gavin Duffy who is one of the Dragons on the Irish Dragon's Den was on stage before me. I loved his passion and insights. He advised the audience never to ask someone what they do. When you meet someone new, ask them what are you doing to beat the recession? His wise words were "In a recession we need to push ahead."
What currently are you doing in your business that is helping you beat the recession?
One Tip on Excellence
- Care for people and business more than other people think is wise.
One Tip on Vision
- Dream and then take action more than others think is practical.
One Tip on Business Excellence
- Expect more than others think is possible and be it now.
One Tip on Risk
- Risk more than others think is safe.
One Tip on the Word 'Problem'
- Re-frame the word 'problem' to 'challenges' and watch the solutions emerge.
One Tip on Coping with Change
- Let change become the new tool by which you introduce new patterns in your life and business.
One Tip on Humility
- Humility is understanding yourself and understanding that you do some things well and some things not so well. It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.
One Tip When You Fail
- Learn to say here's what I won't do next time and move on.
Thought Provoker of the Month
- What are the three most important things you need to achieve this month?
If you cannot answer that question off the top of your head you currently do not have clarity around what you need to do to take you and your people to the next level of success.
One Tip on Building Trust
- Trust comes from allowing people to make mistakes and take responsibility. Everyone desires to be trusted and respected; people will line up to that expectation of trust.
So for the month of October, I encourage you to strive for excellence and build excellence around you by caring for people and business more than others think is wise. Allow your people to make mistakes and learn quickly; let all mistakes be a stepping stone to success.
